Battle of Mind,Body,and Soul

The only limitation that exist, are the one we place upon ourselves. There is no tomorrow. So today we must train harder.

The way we train is the way we'll fight

Every art that I have done research on usually recommends some degree of physical training. I am a firm believer that calisthenics ie: pull ups, push up, sit ups, dips etc. Are excellent in building strength and flexibility. Running for cardiovascular. Being in the Navy I have had the priviledge to reap the benefits. Navy Seals have the best program I've reseach and found quit beneficial. As the most strongest warriors pound for pound. They deserve more recognition than they receieve. A good resource for their program.  Buy the Navy Seal workout program by Seal member Mark Delisle.

Sanchin the 3 battles mind, body, and soul

It can also be know as Iron Shirt training. In which student harden their body through intense breathing. Concentrating on tightening the whole body upon exhalations. Then simutaeously relaxing the body upon inhalations so the (chi ) or (ki) can circulate through the body. When Sanchin is properly done the muscle become tight and thick. The body will violently sweat  from all the pores.

It is said that kata Sanchin is considered the most important kata of the martial arts. I've personally been led to believe this after gaining the insight under reading a text from a teacher whom I have great respect for Shihan Rosenberry.

Gojushiho 54 steps of the black tiger

.A continuos flexing of the body, tensing of the muscular builds the body to create explosive responses in a life and death situation. The result is a powerful deadly stike in which can easily take the life of a victim. Hopefully no martial artist will not to have experience this kind of countermeasure.  For there can be legal ramifications, civil,as well as criminal. In Goju I do not believe in the word block personally. As my instuctor has taught a simple to the eye what looks like a block is really a stike. By practicing Kata Sanchin we harden are body to produce such an effect.

The sister of the kata Sanchin is A kata known as Tensho. Created by the great Chojun Miyagi, which means heavens breath or known as rotating palm. The kata is done softer than tensho to increase (chi) or (ki) flow through the bodies vital points. Both katas it is said can reverse the natural wear and tear of the body. In chinese it is commonly referred as Qi Gong, or Chi kung (energy exercises). Internal Exercise. While Sanchin is more external. Internal styles condition the body from the inside out. While the external form conditions the body outside in. Both with different path but leading to the same goal. Ultimate conditioning. It is said that Sanchin should be done daily and the body should be exhausted after perfoming the kata. That is if it is done correctly.

Sensei Don-Miguel Cummings Kata Gojushiho 54 steps

My first introduction to the Martial Arts was at 8 years old. In a basement studio located in Buffalo,NY. In gung fu. I was very energetic, and eager to learn. As long as someone was willing to teach. I've trained with the Northeast Pan Am federation of Tae Kwon Do under. My mentor and icon Master Lez Zampino, who at the time took me into his school and off the streets by teaching me discipline by giving me my first job cleaning the dojo, also his assistant intructor Olympic competitor Master Michell Smith. Who had the best spinning back and hook kick that caught my attention, Master Yosef Mehter of the CNY Aikiki Syracuse,NY Aikido federation. Daniel Estrella and another instuctor whom does like the spotlite, also Sensei James of Goju Ryu.   Remember we must training our body to the ultimate conditioning. Plus have your goals set. My goal is to be solid like my  icons Michael Jai White with the twist of Wesley Snipes. My Senior instructors say I'm in the right direction. I just have to keep focused.

The weapon is only an extension of the body

I always say weapons training is the last thing a student should learn, because a weapon is the extension of ones self. It is to me fruitless to me to try mastering weapons when one has not mastered his or herself. A lot of wrist push ups, and years of training I've had the priviledge to see some remarkable feats. I remember doing 100 pushups just fo dropping a weapon then having to do it again. After being exhausted from the push ups its more exhausting doing it 3 or 4 times. I didn't like the way I was trained at the time, but I now see the benefits of always being aware of your surrounding. When indulging in weapons training always seek the path of qualified instuctor. My cousin and instructor Sifu Daniel Hammond always says learn the weapon until it can be perfomed blindfolded. Me personally I usually did not like using a lot of weapons. I like hand to hand preferably.
